Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Read-Able is a free reading support tool designed to help children and adults with dyslexia, tracking difficulties, and other reading differences. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how we look after it.

Read-Able is operated by Polly Bowman, a UK-based educational specialist. As the data controller, Polly is responsible for your information and can be contacted at polly@tapandtalk.co.uk.

What information we collect

If you create a Read-Able account, we collect:

If you use Read-Able without an account, no personal information is collected. Your settings (font, colours, speed) are saved only in your own browser using localStorage and never sent to us.

Why we collect it

Account information is collected solely to provide the Save Texts feature, which lets you store reading passages and pick up where you left off. We do not use your information for marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the tool.

Legal basis

We process your personal data on the basis of contract โ€” specifically, to provide the account service you have signed up for โ€” in accordance with UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b).

How we store your data

Your data is stored in a secure MySQL database hosted on Kualo UK servers, based in the United Kingdom. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard methods before storage. We do not transfer your data outside the UK.

How long we keep your data

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you would like your account and all associated data deleted, please email polly@tapandtalk.co.uk and we will do so promptly.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, please contact polly@tapandtalk.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.

Cookies and analytics

Read-Able uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site โ€” for example, which features are used most. This involves cookies being set by Google. No personally identifiable information is shared with Google Analytics. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

We use localStorage in your browser to remember your settings between visits. This is not a cookie and is not accessible to us โ€” it stays on your device only.

Third parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for commercial purposes. The only external service that may process any data is Google Analytics, as described above.

Children

Read-Able is designed to be used by children, typically with parental or teacher supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without parental consent. If a child has created an account without appropriate consent and you would like it removed, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it periodically.
